If you are an international delegate wishing to attend the International Symposium on Society and Resource Management in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, please read the information below regarding the necessary travel documents with which to enter Canada.
Before you apply for a visa, you may contact Mara Erickson, 2012 ISSRM Conference Coordinator, to request a letter of support (ISSRM2012@ales.ualberta.ca). A letter of support can be submitted at the same time as your visa application in order to support your application. .
Note: We require that all delegates who need a letter of support please register for the conference before requesting a letter of support. Providing your registration information will assist in providing a stronger letter of support with which to use in obtaining a visa.
What travel documents do I need to enter Canada?
Temporary Resident Visa: Depending on your country of citizenship, you may require a visa to temporarily enter Canada. For a list of countries requiring a visa and those who are exempt, please visit http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/visas.asp
Passport: Regardless of whether or not you need a visa to enter Canada, all international delegates (including those from the USA) must have a valid, current passport to enter Canada.
If you are already in the United States on a visa, please ensure that you have a multiple-entry visa prior to travelling to Canada. Otherwise, you may not be able to return to the USA without re-applying for a USA visa

How do I apply for a visa and how much will it cost?
Please visit Citizenship and Immigration Canada’s (CIC) website at http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/index.asp to begin the application process. Visa applicants must satisfy CIC that they are genuine visitors and that they will be participating in the event or meeting. Neither the CIC nor ISSRM can guarantee that every applicant will receive a visa, even if they have a letter of support. The fee per person is $75 for a single entry visa. How long will it take for my visa application to be processed?

How can I check the status of my visa application?

What if my application for a visa is denied?
The final decision to grant a visa lies with the visa officer. Once an application has been refused, ISSRM cannot overturn the officer’s decision. Please note: Application fees are non-refundable even if a visa application is refused.
