ISSRM 2012 will host the Fifth Annual Student Quiz Bowl at the University of Alberta. As past attendees can attest, the Quiz Bowl provides a spirited competition among teams of four students and allows both the participants and the audience to have fun while enhancing their awareness of social science issues applied to the environment and natural resources.
This effort is meant to bring together teams of students to foster collegiality among participants, enhance knowledge of social science, and highlight the strong research programs that are a traditional part of ISSRM. A Quiz Bowl is not designed to be an intense competition, but an informal means by which students can gain insights into their respective fields of study.
We are requesting students to form 4-person university-based teams and submit them by May 17, 2012 to ISSRM2012@ales.ualberta.ca.
Six teams (or more, depending on interest) will be selected to participate. While we expect the majority to be university-based, we are also admitting wildcard teams so if you are interested in participating but do not have enough people at your school, please feel free to contact us.
The Student Quiz Bowl will be held in the afternoon on June 20th. Prizes will be offered in addition to the glory and prestige of winning. Participating teams will be emailed a set of Quiz Bowl rules and sample questions to help them prepare. We strongly encourage students to come together and represent your institution at this year’s Quiz Bowl!
